                                            A New Reason To Worry

 

As reported in Newsweek Magazine, December 20, 2010, the Food Safety Modernization Act (Senate Bill 350), if it survives the political process, would strengthen the FDA and hold food producers to higher safety standards. The bill reflects a growing national concern about bacterial contamination of foods—from spinach to eggs—which sickens 76 million Americans and claims thousands of lives yearly. But while it would go a long way toward dealing with pathogens in our food supply, the bill largely ignores a different type of food-safety worry: hazardous man-made chemicals.

( Did you ever wonder why the Congress never investigates why over 3000 people a week are dying at the hands of modern medicine? Can you say drug company lobbyists? And others?)

 

SPECIAL UPDATE!! This bill was signed into law by the President on January 4,2011 as reported in the Oregonian, page 2. You should read what the paper says plus read the bill if you have time.

 

This is a very important topic. On the one hand, it is a public health issue, namely food cleanliness and handling procedures. But there is a huge slight of hand as well, namely, how to increase shelf life, how to control the food supply, etc.

 

Obviously we want clean food. My opinion is that this is just another assault on our right to consume fresh wholesome food. You see, if you make the regulations so big that a company cannot comply, then they go out of business. And the companies that can comply—which are lobbying heavily to get this through Congress—get the business. And is our food any better? Only if you consider a longer shelf life good. Which means how long can a “food” last before needing to be thrown out. Never mind the fact that because of the over processing it has lost so many of its nutrients which must be present for new cells to be made by the body. Which is why we eat to begin with. It’s called nourishment.

 

AGAIN, LET THE BUYER BEWARE, EVERY DAY, EVERY TRIP TO THE STORE. YOUR HEALTH AND LIFE DEPEND ON IT.

 

Which brings me to that which is not addressed in the bill: chemicals. There are reports that tell us we have over 7000 chemicals in our food supply, food chain now. So? Well, these are not nutrients. They are toxins, poisons and as such interfere with biological functions, like making new cells. Or more practically, digestion, elimination, fertility, to name a few. Not to mention how they could be contributing to cancer.

 

Mud in the gas tank does not promote a well functioning vehicle (body). How is your vehicle (body) functioning? Energy, digestion, frame of mind, functional capacity, etc. These are indicators of how well your body is working. Garbage in, garbage out. An old saying. Becoming truer daily. So what can you do?

 

Same story, different day. But repetition is an excellent way to learn. Slow but sure.

Eat as well as you can. Eat the best food available. Become pro-active about your health. Your health is your wealth. Make know mistake about it.

This food situation is really critical. In fact, you can Google raw food  raid and see foryourself just what is going on in different parts of the country.

 

 

Any supplements should be WHOLE FOOD CONCENTRATES. ORGANIC NON-GMO’D FOOD SUPPLEMENTS. Beware the terms natural, organic, from food, from herbs. You want the WHOLE FOOD as a rule. Also, if you can’t pronounce or recognize a word on a bottle, can, or box, don’t buy it. Or at the very least, call the company technical director and ask them what and why they put this in their product. But remember this metaphor, if you don’t bite it off at the ground, be careful. Sounds crazy? Consider the alternative: boxed, canned, bottled, cooked, processed, dead food that provides no nourishment.

 

So very practically speaking do this: Think in term of detoxifying your body daily like the primitives did. Take a tablespoon of Liquid Bentonite Clay from Springreen. Every day upon arising with a glass of spring water. This is the only company I know who makes this. If you prefer tablets, we have them in Cholacol II, from Standard Process. These 2 products are always best taken on an empty stomach at least about 30 minutes before eating. However, they can also be taken after you eat and “just don’t feel right”, or if you eat some bad food/food poisoning or if you get a bout of diarrhea. The reason bentonite clay is so valuable is due to its ADSORPTION CAPACITY. This means it is able to absorb toxins from the intestinal tract, like a sponge, and carry them through so that you don’t throw up after eating bad food.

 

Activated charcoal can also be helpful for food poisoning but the Liquid Bentonite clay is superior. You can buy activated charcoal at the store usually.

 

Liquid Bentonite Clay is also important on a regular basis due to all the inversions we get here in the Williamette Valley and we get exposed to all kinds of chemicals, especially from places like China who has no environmental laws to speak of. The toxic pollution they produce gets into the jet stream and ends up hitting us in the northwest.

 

Consider the Cleansing Program using Springreen Products. Since 1942, they have been using this same program. Cleansing, detoxification, weight loss, rebuilding. All being done at the same time. Easy, inexpensive to do. Also very empowering because you make a connection between how you feel and function and your food and supplement intake. One or two weeks is all it takes to do the program.                                        ARE YOU SAD? (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

 

Millions of Americans are at his time of year, especially in the northwest and northeast part of the USA.  The cold, damp, wind, rain, clouds and generally dreary weather promote your SAD, or commonly called depression. And the consumption of prescription and over the counter drugs for depression is very high at this time of year. And along with the drug consumption goes visits to the hospital as a result of the side effects. In fact, the New York Times January 5 reported that drug induced –side effects—hospital visits doubled since 2004, from 600,000 to 1.2 million visits. So the drug consumption in the country has not diminished, neither have the side effects.

 

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Regular exercise of some sort that you enjoy will help your frame of mind, sleep habits, overall outlook, etc. Avoid the “white plague: white flour, white sugar, white bread” for starters. The beach, walking, working outside come to mind. Or, if you are able to, go to Hawaii, Arizona, or wherever there is sun!!! Me, I’m here in Oregon for the duration. But I don’t mind. I enjoy the fresh air, the beach, etc. I have just figured out how to adapt. And you can too.

And they think about their health moe often than not.

 

Think about this. It is your life, your health. You deserve to be happy and healthy. People that don’t have these, want them. Many people who have them, don’t appreciate them. Be wise. Be pro-active.

 

When you have health, you have hope. When you have hope, you have everything!!!.

 

PS. Have you heard of the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)? It is a term that many companies use in advertising their products. So you can be sure the products are rigorously evaluated and you are getting high quality products/foods/supplements, etc.

 

But there is a flip side as well. This compliance issue is putting companies either out of business, or limiting their production of products they have been making and selling for years with no problems. Case in Point: Springreens #30. A “whole food supplement” that they have been making and providing since 1942. All of a sudden, they can’t sell it anymore because the production of it doesn’t fit the GMP guidelines set by the government ( and heavily lobbied for by the drug industry). Who suffers? The patients/people who have depended on this product for years. And there are so many other stories. So again. LET THE BUYER BEWARE.

 

Read the new “Food Safety Law” bill. See if you agree with it or not. And is it really a FOOD SAFETY BILL? Or a FOOD CONTROL BILL? You be the judge….

 

 

Cough Cold Flu Season or just weak Immune System Season?

 

Winter is here but that is no reason to get sick. These “rules” will help keep you well:

  1. Avoid the “white plague” of white flour, white sugar and pasteurized milk. These 3 are what Dr. Price (Nutrition and Physical Degeneration) found to be the #1 problem in the thousands of people he studied back in the 1930’s and 1940’s who were as isolated as possible. As soon as they started consuming these “non-foods” they got sick. And he observed clearly what it did to them. Why? Their Immune Systems “went south” fast. The teeth especially suffered initially. Unknown to many people, the health of the teeth are an indication of your overall health.

 

  1. Eat Organic, Non gmo’d food whenever possible. Raw, baked, stir-fried, with olive oil, butter (ask for the article why butter is better)

 

 

  1. Drink spring water ( I recommend Earth 2 O or Chrystal Springs). Chlorine and Fluoridated water, among other things, steal the ionizable calcium from your body. Ionizable calcium feeds the white blood cell, your first line of defense in the Immune System.

 

  1. Take Nutriplex Cal Mag, the best form of ionizable calcium available outside of raw milk. You cannot get ionizable calcium from pasteurized milk. The pasteurization process destroys alkaline phosphatase, the enzyme necessary for putting ionizable calcium into the cell. Some patients also take Inflaplex with the Cal Mag. Others take Immune Support. Others take Caro-C or Flavo-C. Figure out which works best for you and take 3 every few hours until you feel better. You can ask me which is best for you to start with.

 

 

  1. Proper rest

 

  1. Some form of exercise you enjoy

 

 

  1. Take a break for a few minutes every day to step back and relax. Let your body and mind “come down”.

 

  1. Load up on fresh chicken soup. Ask for our recipe.

Over time, certain things have “stuck” with patients that seem to work well, are simple and easy to do. Here are the simplest ones I have found. Keep in mind these are for both the back and neck as well as for the whole body. They ultimately affect your nervous system. The better functioning your nervous system, the healthier you will be. To be honest with you, these recommendations do not take the place of the chiropractic adjustment, but in conjunction with the chiropractic adjustment, you will get your best results.

For example: Why is it that so many people I see who go to the gym, pool, or do regular exercise seem to be physically less vital than you would expect for someone who exercises so regularly? One answer is definitely the lack of regular chiropractic care. They are, in essence, driving around with their brakes on, Their nervous system is not “firing” as well as it should be. Hence, the vibrance and vitality just aren’t there.

 

So any type of activity, although essential to life, must be accompanied by a nervous system that has none or minimal interference. Or things simply don’t work as well, whether it be the joints, organs of digestion/elimination, etc.

 

Back and Neck exercises:

Rock and roll: on the floor, knees to chest, rock back and forth. Can also be done on the top stair of a landing.

Twisters: Seated, arms behind the neck, hands clasped, look up at the ceiling, shoulders back, chest out, stomach pulled in. Gently twist back and forth. At least 10 times. More is better.

Standing Squats: Feet shoulder width apart. Bend your knees and squat as if sitting on a chair. Keep the back straight. At least 10 times. More is better.

Breathing: on the floor/bed, practice gentle breathing through the mouth first, then the nose. You can do deeper breathing as you go. A great book on this is called “Conscious Breathing”.

 

General Exercise: Walking, swimming, bicycling, mini trampoline ( reboundology.com is a great reference for its value).

 

Traction: Not exercise.

On your back, on the floor or bed, towel or lumbar orthopedic cushion under the back, feet up on a chair/pillows, towel or neck orthopedic pillow under the neck. Tractions the neck, low back and pelvis. @) minutes at a time is best.

 

Hang the head slightly backwards over the side of the bed. 5-10 minutes. Good neck stretch but may be felt into the mid and low back.

 

On the floor, arms overhead. Great stretch for the shoulders and upper back. May also feel it in the low back.

Sit square on the floor whenever possible. Balances the pelvis, lumbar spine.

 

Mental: Relax and visualize health. Better yet, walk at the beach, mountains, woods or somewhere you find peace and quiet.

 

Music: On the web, a popular station is Pandora.com. You can go there and literally choose the type of music you prefer to listen to. Since my days in Heidelberg, Germany as a student, I became “addicted” to Gregorian Chant and used to attend Vespers regularly at a local Benedictine Monastery. Very comforting, quiet and contemplative music. Choose the type that you “resonate with”.

If you play an instrument, also a great idea to slow the mind down, allowing your nervous system to repair, regenerate, relax, recharge and provide more energy to all body systems.
